Hello,

I am trying to convert a .mov file that was created by my Canon 60D DSLR camera into an avi using Virtual Dub. Unfortunately, Virtual Dub doesn't seem to be able to play back the video: the video appears black when I load in it Virtual Dub. It has the correct length and no audio (which is also correct). Only the video feed appears black. Other applications like VLC Media Player are able to play the video on the same computer.

I am using:

* Windows 7 Professional 64bit
* Virtual Dub 1.10.4 (VirtualDub.exe)
* Canon EOS 60Da

My first guess would be that I am missing a codec or some other piece of software. But I cannot really be sure. There is no error message whatsoever. So I hope someone has encountered this before.

Thanks in advance

Most video players uses DirectShow filters (WMP, BSPlayer, Zoom Player) - some are independent and uses internal decoders (VLC, SMPlayer) or partially independent (MPC-HC, PotPlayer).

In VirtualDub You need VfW codecs (some input plugins are exceptions for decoding - FFMpeg input driver, DirectShow input plugin).

When missing video codec, fccHandler's QuickTime plugin show message at the center of video frame. However not at the center of video panel and message can be outside visible area.

Look at File > File Information... and Decompressor

Do You have installed x264vfw or ffdshow (with enabled AVC decoding in VfW config).
