Hello,

I have tried to install the huffyuv-2.1.1 codec for use in virtual dub and I cannot seem to get it to work. I have virtual dub 1.10.4. I have the 86 bit windows 7 installed, but I am running the 32bit version of virtual dub (as per the recommendation on the virtual dub installation page). I dl the huffyuv codec from here:

http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu/b...rg/huffyuv.html

It shows that it is installed on my computer, but does not show up in the video compression options when I run virtual dub. The huffyuv download does not tell me whether the codec is for a 32bit or 64bit program, though i assumed it was 32bit. Do i need to intall it from somewhere else or is there something else i am doing wrong? unsure.gif

p.s. huffyuv.dll is installed in this location:

C:\windows\syswow64

There is also a file under the system32 folder called:

HUFFYUV.DLL

Any help would be appreciated. Huffuv was recommended to me as I am transferring VHS tapes to my computer. If this doesn't work I will use Xvid, but I was hoping someone could help me out..my curiosity is piqued on what the problem is.

Are you using vista or newer?
If so the right click on the inf file has to be done with admin rights or nothing will happen, and you have to use the 32bit inf installer if you're on 64bit os..... .... ....
The how to of that is a pain, so how about this

Get the Lagarith codec instead - it's also lossless and has an installer ;-)

I am running windows 7 64bit, but running the 32 bit version of virtualdub.

I even tried editing the permissions in the command prompt and installing it that way into the correct folder. I have NO IDEA where the issue is..if its in the wrong folder, if it just didn't install under administrator permissions. Its listed in my add or remove programs as installed, its just not showing up in virtualdub as an option. It looks like i am not the only one with this issue, I just don't know how to figure out the root cause.

You've just got to run the 32bit installer instead

Open an administrative command prompt
(type cmd in the start menu, right click the cmd entry and run as administrator)
Then in the prompt type this, but change the somewhere to the real location
"%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\InfDefaultInstall.exe" "c:\somewhere\huffyuv.inf"

(Personally I'd still use lagarith instead of huffy though)

Hmm I did try to install it that way. I probably need to remove it and start all over again. I may be abandoning this effort for something else!
