Hi.
I recently used DivXPro 5.0.2 and VirtualDub 4.10 on an XP1600/W2k to encode a video sequence.
The result is correct but VD gives an error message when I try to read it :
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable
Using an hex editor, I changed the FOURCC code from "DX50" to "DIVX", and now VD can read the file. It also works if I open the file using "extended open options" and force either the video format or video codec handler FOURCC code to DIVX.
Is this a common problem with DivXPro or did I make some mistake ?
[EDIT] Problem solved : big ugly AngelPotion codec was removed from the system and everything works fine now.[/EDIT]

Yes, I've never been able to read any DivX file in VirtualDub but I avoid the illegal ones. I can produce DivX with DivX5 Pro however provided I don't watch the output as it is produceing, otherwise I get a black screen, and even in the player I only get the last two frames flipping back and forth for the entire clip.
ThanX for the advise on a cure, may try mp43 and see if I get the same result as you with DIVX |
