All,

Anyone have any suggestions for high quality M-Jpeg codecs for V-Dub.
Currently using Huffy with good results but have seen very good results from M-Jpeg in the past. Any Holy Grails????

Why does everyone says that Picvideo is the best MJPEG codec? Have you tested all the others that are available?

So, like with everything else, there are no holy grails.

I would say that Picvideo is the best for slower systems, but quality wise it is certainly not the best.

Check out the Leadtech and Morgan codec if you have a fast system. And any other MJPEG if you can. The quality changes constantly from version to version, so it is quite hard to say: "Let's stick with x forever".

Sadly, my system is not fast enough (not to mention that I don't have the licenses of the other codecs, Picvideo was free a quite long time, so I have the license).

Also, expect that the different MJPEG decoders will collide (?), and that (in my case) for instance the Picvideo decoder will decode material encoded with the Morgan codec. The picture will look like, er, crap. If you manage to use the Morgan codec decoder for the Morgan MJPEG material, that's another story smile.gif .

Cheers,

Mijo.

I personally found the morgan codec to be the easiest to work with ,dunno how high quality it is but at least i dont have any probs using it in several different programs.

I have used both Morgan and the Picvideo MJPEG codecs. Ookami I have to honestly say that I have not seen a massive difference in quality between the two. They are both good codecs though. Most people I know use the Picvideo MJPEG codec but not for that reason.
