I am trying to convert my DVD's to Divx files. During this process I get one file with the image of the movie compressed by divx codec and one wav file containing the sond. Now I am trying to use virtual dub to merge audio and video but when I am trying to configure the audio compression properties the Divx compression format is not present in the list of compression formats. When I try to use an existing format for compression I get the massage: Error initializing audio stream compression: the requested conversion is not possible.

Thanks for your time and your help

welcome Isis,
without knowing which other programs you use i can only guess:
You use GKnot ?
Audio is already compressed into vbr mp3
-> You dont need to compress again, just mux with nandub not VDub

If that is not your problem, give us more details

Never ever ever use the Divx audio format. You are lucky that this error occured. Had it not you would have made a big mistake. Phew lucky you. Divx audio is an old outdated buggy hack of the old WMAv2 audio codec. It was released by accident at which time the authors wished they could have taken it back. They released it with the hopes that someone else would continuse to hack it. It was never meant for real use. Vanilla MP3 outperforms it in pretty much every category.
