Lame.ACM works only in CBR mode, as the ACM codec API doesnt support VBR/ABR .... i personally use the original Fraunhofer Professional MP3 codec and i am very pleased with its performance ....

Jhulk -- in case that was not clear enough, you cannot use VBR or ABR in an AVI file easily. There are ways to do it but the results are still not good. Look for a near-future container format that will work with variable bit rate audio!

Most Binary distributions of Lame contains the Lame ACM, just install it by right clicking on LameACM.inf and clicking Install.

You should checkout Doom9's software collection, search for the Radium Layer3 Fraunhofer codec its fantastic, however most people will tell you not to use it as it may not be legal ph34r.gif

Thanks, i found lame acm 0.90
But i still think devellopers should work on vbr , because in case of silence in a film vbr will gain space, and in case of complexe noise vbr will gain quality.
