Hello
I try to encode simple Animations (Some Black lines moving in front of a whte Background) to an avi using RLE
I try this with RLE because it is Lossless, so i dont get these Grey Patterns, that i would get by using some MPEG4 format.
And i Also would like to use Rle because everybody has it. And the avi should be seen by People at their offices, where they are not allowed to install new Codecs. If u have a better solution than RLE, I'm always open.
Now to the problem
with the RLE codec i get in the Video Compression Window of VirtualDub the following message:
Couldn't find compatible format. Possible reasons: * Codec may only support YUV * Codec might be locked. * Codec might be decompression-only
I think none of the possible reasons is true.
How can i make this compression work?

I'm not sure, but I suspect that M$ RLE only supports 8-bit color-indexed input. If that's true, then you can't use VirtualDub for this. You can probably get the job done with Adobe Premiere or Ulead, but they ain't cheap. Alternatively, you'll have to choose some other codec (like Cinepak or Indeo) that comes with Windows, or encode them uncompressed.

It's 8 bit only. I suggest you use VidEdit 1.1 to make older codec videos. It's freely avaiable as part of the old vfw1.1e package and it still works fine (I still use it today!) |
