Hi everyone,
I downloaded many episodes of a tv program. Not one is encoded the same way. I try to make a .WAV file and I get all kind of error messages with VirtualDub. I think they are codecs problems. I use GSpot to get the codec name. Then I dolwnload it, and still I have the same error message. The last one I had was "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format". So perhaps the problem is where should I save the dodecs I download. Is there a special place on the computer where I should save the codecs, or what ? Thanks for the help. ohmy.gif

Hi.

Most codecs are distributed with setup programs. It isn't enough just to download the codec, you also have to run the setup program to install the codec in your system.

... and as long as you run the installer program for each codec, it does not matter where you save the downloaded codec files on your hard drive. I like to put them somewhere safe (like burn them onto a CD-RW or file them on a hard drive separate from my boot drive) so that I won't have to download the same codecs all over again in case I ever have to reinstall my operating system... instead I would just reinstall them from the safe place where I kept them.

Some codecs that are not so overdeveloped require you to move some of their files into the right place manually, but these will have a README.TXT file or other instructions included.

Thanks for your answers. I have installed the codecs as you suggested, but I still have the same error message. I wonder, is there a program I can download that has all the codecs up to date ? Or do I have to d/l them one by one ? I'm lost here.

You can get a whole bunch of (up-to-date) codecs in Nimo's Codec Pack
