Hello,
Since while I can't convert any MKV File, I get "Missing Codecs" message (see here beloow).
It looks like AVC1 codec is missed. I've already downloaded and installed/added almost all plugins but still I've this Missing Codecs.
I really appreciate yr help
Regards

The Matroska plugin only takes care to open the movie-file and to split the (compressed/encoded) video and the (compressed/encoded) audio that are in it.

To be able to read the video and the audio you need a separate decompressor/decoder for both (one for video, one for audio).

Mostly the functions of coding and decoding are bundled into one file, that is the reason why it is called a "codec" (coder/decoder).

Now, for MKV you need the video-codec H.264/AVC-1 and the audio-codec AAC.

The most easy way to make it work for VirtualDub is to download and install the x264vfw video-codec that you can find here:

The AAC audio-codec is already there.
In case of you would need it, you can download it from here:
(at preference use the SetupAACacm_X86_X64.zip version)

- - - - - -

An alternative for the Matroska plugin, is to use the FFMpeg plugin.
This plugin includes all the needed functionally to open almost any kind of movie-file (and to decode the video and audio in it):

I have ffdshow set to open H264/AVC with libavcodec as decoder under vfw configuration. fcchandler's aacacm, ac3acm and lameacm.

TNX Abrazo and DarrellS wink.gif but it doesn't help wacko.gif
As I wrote here above, everything worked just fine till last week. So, I still have "MISSING CODECS" when I open a mastroska file.
Moreover, when I open an .avi file, set my Video/Audio compression and Save as AVI... the process show Total time (estimated) over than 5 hours blink.gif
Any Idea?

So you've verified that the codecs are still there and installed? (because as we know, nothing ever goes wrong or changes.....)
If x264vfw is installed it's listed on the video compression dialog
If you're using FFDshow, h264/avc1 should be enabled on its VFW config dialog

As for saving, 5 hours is quite a long time, but you haven't said if recompressing - what codecs etc and how they're set
(some codecs let you set things to 'insane' and then it will take forever on a slow pc)

If you're in direct stream copy mode for both audio and video (remembering that they don't default to that every time you start virtualdub) then that's too long, and I'd check to see if my hard drive was ok

@coucou
You can try VirtualDub pack rev.13 (VD 1.10.4 x86 + input plugins, filters, codecs, etc).
link1, link2
You must choose a Normal or Full install.

Not yet said, but it is important to know that you have to combine xx-bit version of VirtualDub with equal xx-bit versions of codecs.

VirtualDub 32-bit will not work with 64-bit codecs and vice-versa.

This in case if you have a 64-bit operating system.

Hello,
First of all I thank you all for your help and I hope you continue to do so.
Sorry for the delay but I can justify it by the following.
Since I could not get rid of "Missing Codecs" although I reinstalled all Plugins and Filters. I remind you that I use VirtualDub for few years that everything was working just fine; when suddenly last week January 12, 2015 all went haywire. So I resigned to restore my last image disc dating from January 2014.

So, before challenging VirtualDub again, I updated Windows, Antivirus, Malware and other safety things…
Using VirtualDub, I have no more "Missing Codecs", everything seems to work well by testing the ripped/converted movies with VLC and BSPlayer ... BUT Actually NOT. I explain:
My 3 play (Internet, Phone, TV) ISP (Internet service provider) Free provides a Box (Freebox) with a hard drive in it. So once the films are ripped/converted, I copy them in the Freebox to watch on my TV. So, all the movies converted/ripped yesterday with the restore from January 2014, although, they works with VLC and BSPlayer, they doesn’t on the FreeBox to watch on my TV.
I suspect the latest postfix Windows update unsure.gif

I use Win7 Ultimate 64bit and I have the following installed:
VirtualDub 1.10.4 x32
VirtualDub 1.10.4 x64
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 10.2.0
Shark007 Advanced Codecs
AAC ACM Codec 1.9
AAC ACM Codec x64 1.9
AC3 ACM Codec 2.2
AC3 ACM 2.2

I think I ‘ll reinstall VirtualDub from scratch. PLEASE ADVISE

@v0lt: Do you think I have to uninstall all the above codecs and codec pack before installing your VirtualDub pack rev.13 x86? Have you VirtualDub Pack rev.13 x64 too?

Regards

If your box doesnt play, maybe all you need is change fourcc codec tag to something convenient, like "H264".

Based on information in an other topic that you posted about a year ago, I suppose you are (still) using Xvid as video-compression-codec for your AVI's ?
http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...=ST&f=4&t=22083

Did you use that same codec for encoding the new videos that do not play anymore via your Freebox ?

If so, then maybe try (just for a test) to save in "old" AVI-format, via File > Save old format AVI... Check if they play correctly.

You can also compare a video that plays correctly with one that does not play anymore, and verify what is the difference.
(This by opening them in VirtualDub and looking via File > File information...)

Hello,

I uninstalled all the above codecs (K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 10.2.0, Shark007 Advanced Codecs, AAC ACM Codec 1.9, AAC ACM Codec x64 1.9, AC3 ACM Codec 2.2, AC3 ACM 2.2) and installed the v0lt VirtualDub pack rev.13 (VD 1.10.4 x86 + input plugins, filters, codecs, etc) only. It looks working just fine.

However, still problems, it looks like Audio codecs fails.
1) TNX to VirtualDub, I took a part of a matroska movie and saved it as .AVI when Direct Video and Audio are selected. All players, FreeBox included play it OK.
2) Then I took this part of movie and Apply Video DivX 6.9.2 Codec (8 Logical CPUs) and Direct Audio selected. VLC, DivX Player and Freebox play it OK. BSPlayer NOT.
3) Finally, I took the same part of movie and Apply Video DivX 6.9.2 Codec (8 Logical CPUs) and Audio AC3 ACM codec (256Kb/s, 48 KHz, Stereo). Only VLC play it OK. Also, I noticed that during the compression, no matter what audio codec selected, VirtualDub Status show Audio data: 64KB.
see here bellow the File Info of each of the above test as well as the installed codecs.

Hope with all theses details so you can better target your help.

Looking at the right hand one, the chunks number of 1 is odd, so I had a quick test

[edit swapped these around as I'd gotten them backward the first time]
If I picked "ac-3 acm codec" to encode with I get a number like that
If I pick "ac-3 acm extensible" I get a chunk number like the first two pictures
So, you might want to verify which you picked
(not sure it's what stops your player though)

As your box supports H264, you might want to use the x264vfw codec for compressing the video
https://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/

Just for your information:
When I use the AC3 ACM codec, I also have one only chunk.
When I use the AC3 ACM extensible, I have multiple chunks.
So, just the opposite.

But, why still worry if direct stream of H264-video and direct stream of AAC-audio deliver a perfect result for all four players ?

And, if I would make the combination of DivX or Xvid with audio, I would rather opt for MP3 (via the Lame MP3 audio-codec).

Regards.

Ugh, I may have gotten them switched about when saving

[edit]
Yup, rechecking shows 'code' gives 1 chunk
