Have win 8 /64 bit and virtual dub 1.10.4 cannot seem to open file or couple of other files, i have just tried. the system is only 2 weeks old so this is the first time i have used virtual dub on this sys. worked fine when i was on the win7/32bit pc i had before.
The error i am getting is-

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'xvid' (unknown)
Virtual dub requires a Video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. directShow codecs, such as those used by Win Media Player are not suitable.

I am using a AVI file with 480 x272 frame width and height, and 29 frames/p sec.
thanks anyone mad.gif

The message you have describes the problem
Virtualdub can't find a VFW decoder to decode XVID with, so you need an XVID VFW decoder
(vfw= video for windows, as opposed to directshow)

You could install XVID from https://www.xvid.org/
Or, FFDshow decodes many types of formats (when enabled in it's vfw decoder configuration) http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
