If you are sure that it goes about the H.264 codec, then the most simple solution for you will be to install x264vfw that you can find here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/files/

The ffdshow try-outs are here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tr...ial%20releases/
(if you should choose for this second solution, then via "VFW configuration" you will have to enable the H.264/AVC decoder)

Take care to select either the classic 32-bit or either the 64-bit version, corresponding to the xx-bit installation of your VirtualDub.

Good luck.

I downloaded both.

But still not working. I don't understand.
The video was converted to AVI (MKV to AVI). It worked before. : S

That's because the files width is not a multiple of 4
You can probably open it correctly with the directshow or ffmpeg plugins

VFW codecs are usually stricter about getting the source files being in spec

In VirtualDubs "Open video file"-dialogbox you must first select the AVI that you want to open.
Secondly you have to choose in the "Files of type:" for the inputdriver that you like to use:
- Audio/video interleave
- FFMPeg Supported Files
- DirectShow input driver

Please try these, one by one...

I opened, but nothing. I don't think of having what you say. The version of Virtualdub is 1.9.9. :S

You can try with:

DirectShow inputdriver:
- Download : http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputD...Driver-0.93.zip
- Installation : unzip the "DShowInputDriver.vdplugin" to the plugins32 subfolder of your VirtualDub installation.

FFMPeg inputdriver:
- Download : http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdub...latest/download
- Installation : unzip the "FFInputDrive*.vdplugin" to the plugins32 subfolder of your VirtualDub installation + unzip the *.dll files to a subfolder ffdlls within the plugins32 subfolder.

Now you should find them in the "Files of type:"

Try VirtualDub 1.10.4, 32 bit, I think it's required.

For FFMPeg inputdriver (it's awesome), here is a post I made on another forum showing how to install and use it.

If the plugin is installed correctly and you still have a problem, please post a MediaInfo report on your problem video.

@raffriff42
Thanks for helping, I was not aware of the fact that latest versions of FFMPeg inputdriver do not show up anymore in VirtualDub 1.9.9 and 1.9.11.
VirtualDubs 1.9.11 Log-file tells me:
Error loading plugin "FFMPeg" from module FFInputDriver.vdplugin: Plugin requires a newer input API version (v4 > v2).
A little strange ... (maybe dloneranger can tell us something more about this ?)

@marys
If you should come back to this thread, please do us a favor ...
and tell us what you did exactly to be able to open your video ...
- Did you install VirtualDub 1.10.4 or later ?
- Did you install FFMPeg inputdriver and / or DirectShow inputdriver ?
- With which one of these two did it work ?
- When you look into File > File information... which video-decoder was finally used to correctly open your video ?

All this information can be of interest to other visitors of this forum.

Please do not just say : now it works.
These words do not tell us much. Sorry to say.

Support for colourspace 709/601 and fullrange/limited requires sdk v1.2, and that requires virtualdub v1.10.1
Hopefully having those outweighs the blocking of earlier virtualdub versions
