Doies VD work also with DirectShow codecs or only with VfW ?
In other words: If I have the choice to install DirectShow or VfW should I install/use DirectShow?

Depends on if you need to encode with that codec
DirectShow codecs can be used with the DirectShow plugin but only for decoding
If you need to encode you'll need the VFW type (unless you're using the external encoder options)
