I want to add the x264 encoder to make my export ideal for YouTube, but I don't know how. I found it on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/, but once I download it, it isn't appearing in the compression options (ctrl+p). Do I need to download it somewhere special? Am I downloading the wrong one? I have the 64-bit version (Veedub64), if that's relevant.
Thank you! |

Yes, I downloaded and installed it just right on the desktop because I wasn't sure where to put it. But it does not show up in the compression menu. Does the link I put lead to the correct version that I need? Because that is the one I downloaded. |

I am afraid, like Placio74 asked, that you did not install the 64-bit version.
I must admit, it is not always clear by who this x246vfw codec has really been made, and where to find the correct or last one...
But, in eather case, you will find a 64-bit version here: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/x26..._VFW_Codec.html
or even here: http://x264.nl/ |

You can get the latest version from the official site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/files/
Or the latest modded version here: http://komisar.gin.by/

That one worked, thanks! I'm running a test video through now. The biggest issue I'm trying to solve is getting a final product that isn't beyond massive. How big would a file compressed with this codec be if it was around 24k frames? |

There is one "official" build made by me at http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/ Note that for 64-bit version you will need to go to files page where you will see 2 folders: x264vfw for 32-bit and x264vfw64 for 64-bit
And there is one "unofficial" (fork based on mine version 22 with old-style configuration GUI) build by komisar here: http://komisar.gin.by/. He also builds cli version of x264 so don't confuse what you need (vfw or cli) when download. |

@BugMaster Thanks for the clarification. You see, it is very confusing for a non-experienced user with all these versions, official/unofficial, 32-bit/64-bit, vfw/cli, ... Wouldn't it be good to also put the "official 64-bit x264vfw" version on your Summary page, to find it immediately ?
@Wyrd What the filesize will be for about 24.000 frames (at 25fps = 16 minutes), compressed with the x264vfw codec, will greatly depend on the average bitrate that you will need for your videofile. The average bitrate itself will depend on the resolution (number of pixels) of the images, the number of image changes, and the quality that you want (to avoid 'blocks'). Honestly, I have no experience with the x264vfw codec, but with for example DivX 6, for a resolution of 720x404 in very good quality, at an average bitrate of 2500kbps, I would arrive at something about 300MB. |
