Hi Folks,
I've been trying for days to open other files than standard .avi.
I finally managed this by getting plugins and enabling most codecs in FFDShows VfW screen.
All video format open fine now and can be saved as .avi.
However when trying to save WMV files there's only 4 seconds of audio in the .avi file and the rest of the video is muted in VLC. In WMV player the audio stays ok.
Since I want to use VLC and don't want .wmv extensions like any decent person on the planet, I'm looking for a solution.
When trying to 'Full Audio Process' the files give the 'No audio decompressor found, source tag 0161' error.
Hope anybody can help me out.

Did you already try with the "DirectShow input driver" plugin for VirtualDub ?
This one should make use of the ffdshow video and audio configuration (not the VfW part).

An other possibility maybe is the ffinputdriver plugin:
http://code.google.com/p/ffinputdriver/downloads/list

I did not immediatly find an example of a WMV file to do some tests,
so I could not experiment with it first...

Whe it say "No audio decompressor found" you should just install the proper ACM codec to decompress the audio.
0161 is WMA.

@ale5000 : thanks for the information.

I did not realize there exists a separate ACM codec for WMA.

Unfortunately the actual link on the VirtualDub forum does not work anymore.
After a little search - thanks to Google - I found a download-link that still works:

http://rghost.net/download/37651098/7ba64e...08.0.0.4487.zip

Let's hope for Hercules25 that his problem gets solved with the given solution(s).

A little feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input so far.
After downloading the ACM WMA codec I tried installing it by double clicking the batch icon.
Unfortunately the same problems are still there however the error message changed to a missing 'Microsoft Audio Codec'.

Is it possible that you are using 64-bit version of VirtualDub, because I suppose the WMA ACM codec does only exist in 32-bit version !
Versions of VirtualDub and codecs need to correspond concerning their xx-bit version.

For WMA you need to use the 32-bit VirtualDub (also on 64-bit Windows).

Also for Windows Vista and higher you must right click the bat file and select "Run as Administrator".

I think I'm running the 32bit version since it's installed in the x86 dir.
Version is 1.9.11 Build 32842
I'll try a complete uninstall and start all over with the plugins.
