I've recently started to use VirtualDub (v1.9.11 32-Bit) for the first time in a few months and have found a whole load of video codecs missing. I've re-installed the K-Lite Mega Pack (default setting as always) but still they are not there, codecs such as V7, DivX, x264, etc. as well as the AVI container. There were lots of others but I can't remember them at this time.

The only ones that are appearing are:

Cinepak Codec by Radius
ffdshow Video Codec
Helix l420 YUV Codec
Helix YV12 YUV Codec
Intel lYUV codec
Microsoft RLE
Microsoft Video 1
Xvid MPEG-4 Codec

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit).

64 bit codecs only work with 64 bit virtualdub
32 bit codecs only work with 32 bit virtualdub

64 bit version of windows can use 64 and 32 bit versions of codecs and virtualdub

For greatest compatibility, the 32 bit version of virtualdub is recommended on a 64 bit OS

I know that. As I had already explained, I was using the 32-Bit version of VirtualDub, and I had already installed the K-Lite Mega Pack which contains both 32-Bit and 64-Bit codecs.

Information about the K-Lite Codec Pack is available at : http://www.codecguide.com

I read that there are actually 5 (five) variants of it: Basic, Standard, Full, Mega and 64-bit.

When you use VirtualDub 32-bit on a 64-bit Windows Operating System, you should install one of the 32-bits versions of K-Lite.

In the comparison table of the 4 (four) 32-bits variants of K-Lite at : http://www.codecguide.com/klcp_contents_comparison.htm
you can see that only the "K-Lite MEGA codec pack" contains a certain number of "VFW codecs" that are needed for VirtualDub (but DivX for instance, is NOT included).

Like you say and did experience, it is a little bit odd that x264 and VP7 do not appear after installation.

>> There is a recent version 8.6.6 of K-Lite by the date of the 12th April 2012, maybe you can once try that one ? <<

(Honestly I have no experience with it myself ; I did install my needed codecs separately).

After installing 32 bit ffdshow things is OK now. Thanks

But when I want to inport .ts file from DVB-Viewer (MPEG 2 or 4 file from satellite) throu DirectShow input driver (DShowInputDriver.vdplugin from working VD 1.9.10 in WinXP) VirtualDub report error "Unable to set file name on media detector: hr = 80004005" (if file is recorded in 32 bit Win XP) or ""D:\Video.ts" does not have a video stream" if file was recorded in 64 bit Win7.

I also notice strange things: 64 bit Win7 can't play .ts fajl recorded in 32 bit Win XP, but have no problem with file recorded in Win7.

For original poster - In the mega k-lite pack try selecting expert mode and also selecting 'lots of stuff' from the menu rather than just the default settings as there are a huge number of codecs available instead of the just the really basic stuff.
