The Filters menu item is grayed out and I find that I am able to use Deshaker (including the second pass which produces the output file) only in Full Processing Mode, producing enormous files. Then I have to run conversion to create a compressed file. Is there a way around this?

Filters only work in full processing mode
To make a smaller file, choose a compressor from the compression menu and configure it

So, you are saying that i have to run another pass, unfiltered, to create a smaller file?

OK, now I am finding that I can use a compressor in full processing mode. The problem i had was with VirtualDub's dumping presets when closing and reopening it.
