Hello,

I have Virtualdub 1.9.8 installed, with a bunch a plugins, including the mpeg-2 and ac-3 input filters.

I open a .VOB file from a DVD (which is supposed to contain AC-3; at least ffmeg reports "liba52" for the audio stream), and when I try to save it as AVI (video compressed to mpeg4 with ffdshow, audio to mp3 with Lame) I get the error message :

QUOTE
No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format (source format tag: 2000)

Any idea ?

Thanks,

AC-3 plugin is only for importing AC3 audio from external file.

Install AC-3 ACM Codec.

What do you mean by "external file" ?

If you had a video file and a separate audio file that you wanted to put in the video file.

vid.avi+aud.ac3 into vid2.avi for example

I assume that AC3ACM did not work?

Could you copy and paste a MediaInfo text file of the VOB that you are trying to convert?

Actually the AC3ACM codec worked.

I was just unsure about what were the "external files"...

The Windows codec world is still a big mystery to me biggrin.gif (mpeg-2 input video requiring a VD plugin while ac-3 input audio requires a windows codec...)

Anyway, it works, and it's all what I needed, thanks !

Hi, I joined just to reply to this old thread. I was having the exact same problem: did not understand why the AC-3 plugin would not allow me to play a VOB file from a DVD with AC-3 audio. After all, the MPEG-2 plugin allowed me to open the file. I installed the AC-3 ACM Codec and all is well. I wish the difference was better publicized.

Thanks for the great free software, btw.

Where can I find the AC3 plugin? Thanks. I installed the AC3ACM codec but when I try to add ac3 audio to my avi, I get an unsupported audio file error message.

You can find this plugin (among others) on fccHandler's stuff:
