Cine To Dvd - Which Compressor?

I'm thinking of transferring old cine footage to DVD-R by capturing it with a digital camcorder and then processing it with VirtualDub. Does anyone have any advice especially as to which compressor to use. I'd rather not trade too much of the quality as the original isn't that good to start with.
