umh..i doubt i'll be able to do this if "ThumbCtl" is activex control that resides in System32/webvw.dll
now i don't think i can do much just by editing folder.htt at all. and the preview pane istelf is composed of several objects.
see 'Figure 12 folder.htt' Layout here http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/0600/w2kui2/
yeap..i love microsoft.

Only thing I could suggest is to try embedding some JScript that finds the side panel's <DIV> and whacks its background color... but the idea of JScript running from a folder's HTML background scares me. |

for such content, png is excellent. (notice the 45kb filesize). but for screenshots of actual video, png is crap.
phaeron, your idea doesn't scare me at all; you'll be approached.
if it blows, i have backup copies of anything i might need. i tried resource-hacker last night, but it's all greek to me. it's not like i'm gonna find a bmp and change it's color or something. this seems to be done fully by scripting.
my eyes are already saying 'thanks' because less of the "white-light to my eyes" is happening. i mean...yesterday i wasn't crying!

heh..same thought crossed my mind while i was writing that.
but it's a different thing to read "from the light bulb", and to be out (without sunglasses).
people are wearing sunglasses more because of fashion than because of some real need, and i also dislike when i have to talk to somebody that's wearing them; "god damn , take that crap off while you're talking to me!" i say to them.
