This is just some detective work coming out. I've been getting emails from groups.msn.com telling me my email to xxxxxxxx@msn.groups.com is undeliverable because I am not a member of that group.
latest one was sent to hyperfunctioncrew@groups.msn.com.
This msn report came back to me shortly after posting here at virtualdub. I suspect that someone or several in this forum may be posting bogus return emails to msn.groups.com to be notified of any posts.
I don't get the original message from msn, just the notice that AN EMAIL from ME to XXXXXX@msn.groups.com was undeliverable.
Doesn't give me much to go by other than telling msn that I am NOT writing to anyone at msn.groups.com
Only way to be sure I guess, is to see if anyone else is getting these undeliverable emails from msn groups every time they post a reply to a message in this forum.
FWIW: Possible way to be sure would be a reply to a post I started about vidcapping with vdub in the general discussion forum. |

the 2 things you think are connected are not really.
your email problems don't have anything to do with this forum.
i also get simillar stuff on my highly-spammed net.hr webmail, but so what?

It's a possibility. As it would seem that msn is NOT going any further to find out who sent the email than a return email address probably in the header... If that is so an email from here could be sent to many addresses monitoring the forums. I suspect if I put me@msn.groups.com as my notification email this group would go right out and send to me@msn.groups.com. Bouncing the emails back to the sender from msn groups.
So what ? msn groups is a place that does deal with spammers. Reporting spam to them is not a waste of time.
Most places you report spam, it's just a waste of your time. I use popfile and 99% of spam gets tossed by it. These msn reports also get tossed by popfile. Some spam I report. Mostly illegal scams. Identity theft is illegal.
Would you like me to tell whoever's using my return email that you're ok with them using your email as a return address ?
I'm eliminating sources as to how email is getting sent to msn.groups.com by me. A batch email company such as this is a likely source.
That's So what! |
