guide on atsc states this;
| QUOTE | | The ATSC DTV (Digital TV) standard uses a 6 MHz channel to transmit a 19Mbit/s stream via terrestrial broadcast, and up to 38 MBit/s using the same 6 MHz channel but using RF cable as support. The modulation scheme used is 8 VSB (Vertical Sideband Modulation) |
( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=76006 )
but,obvioulsy,doom9 didn't used the google search button! http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...e=UTF-8&q=8+vsb
it is the vestigial sideband modulation,doom9...and a pretty old modulation technique at that....(infact,ntsc uses it since 1940's)
look at the few lines below this quote(in original post);he linked one atsc doc...it's a pitty he didn't read the right one....
(you may ask yourself why am i reading doom's hdtv stuff?well,i was lookin' for some data on dvd-authoring and sure enough there was that link on "dvdr help" site...i asked myself:"isn't it a bit too early doom9?"...and it was.... .....)

one more;
| QUOTE | | consequently OFMD is the modulation scheme used |
( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&t...&threadid=76063 )
he also repeats it 3 times,letting us know that it wasn't a typo....
it's "OFDM" like "COFDM",but without "C" it stands for (ok,i'm not copy-pasting this,i know exactly what it means....i must be crazy...or i just love modulation info... ) "Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex"
google again ofdm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...F-8&q=isdb+ofdm
ofmd http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...F-8&q=isdb+ofmd
btw. after pal,europeans again have better modulation scheme than US folks... (strictly off-topic,btw.)
