I was advised to post my topic here so maybe someone will answer. So I'm going to write it again. ''Hope the question wasn't posted before. I have this problem : after spliting avi files with virtualdub the video is far in front of audio. No problem. Using VD and reading some of the posts here I worked out how to match video and audio back toghether. Took me two days but I did it and I was very proud of myself. So I burn the disc with Nero as VCD (it was avi file but I know nero can encode avi and put it on disc as vcd ). Inserted disc into my dvd player and....there it was. Audio and video was out of sync again. So my question is.....did I do something wrong? Is it normal? How can I fix it? Please help because I'm ready to give up and I don't really want to. Thank you.''

i know nothing about NERO or how it converts the AVI to MPEG-1 (maybe you did something wrong with PAL or NTSC settings?)
what you could try is this: convert the files to MPEG-1 before you burn the CD

there is program called TMPGEnc that can do this with AVI (and with almost all other formats)
check after the conversion if the audio is still in sync

HTH

Ok. I downloaded the TMPGEnc from the web and tried to convert avi to mpeg -1 but I keep getting this error message every time I press start to encode the file '' Can't load ''P3Package.dll'' Haven't got a clue what it means. To be honest I don't really know how to use this program but I thought it would be easy. So what should I do now?? Any ideas??

it should be easy

p3package.dll (and p4package.dll) should installed in the directory where the TMPGenc.exe file is installed.
this should be automatically be done when installing the program but you might have accidentily moved either one of them to another directory

if you cant find the files. you can either reinstall the program or search your harddrive for them with the search-program

sorry bout that, but i never have sync problems (except with VBR), but maybe im just lucky tongue.gif
at least now we know the problem lies in the conversion from AVI to MPG, and not NERO

so what im wondering now is what the desynchronasation is like:
A. is it a constant offset between sound and video
B. or is the sound in the beginning in synch with video but after a while it gets more and more out of synch

in case A:
find out how many ms the offset of the new MPG file is (with virtual dub) and then correct this in TMPGenc when encoding the AVI-file again
you can do this is with the source-range function in the project-wizard (using the audio gap)
if this doesnt work... than im out of options too dry.gif

in case B:
maybe you ARE dealing with VBR (i dont know if TMPGenc supports this, although virtualdub would already have rewritten the header to CBR, so it doesnt really matter), does virtualdub show a message about this when you open the (original, uncutted) AVI-file?
to solve this problem, go to the pinned topic in the newbies forum, its the first one, cant miss it wink.gif

goodluck again

[edit]another thing, you could also try to split and convert to mpg the original avi-file in one time, also using the source range function
it enables you to select the part of the file you wish to convert, that is if the AVIfile doesnt have VBR-audio, i just found out
[/edit]

Ok. We're dealing with VBR here. But I went through the forum and I thought I fixed this problem ( but obviously not). I am a total newbie and it has to be all explained the easiest way. I know I have to use virtualdubmod or nandub. I got nandub from the web (tried to get virtualdubmod but keep having problems with opening the exe file.) And what?? What do I do with it? How do I fix it? I went to the newbies forum to the topic you suggested but I can't see anything to be explained there. So or there isn't an explanation or it's written in a language that I don't really understand (probably fact that I'm not english doesn't help wink.gif ) So if anyone could explain this to me in an easy language I would be very grateful. Thanks again.

ok

this time then (i suppose that thread is all mixed up anyway maybe a mod could clean it up)
for anyone who would like to know: i dont think TEMPenc can deal with VBR so conversion to CBR is necessary IMO

so here we go:

1. load the (original, uncutted) AVI-file in VirtualDub (NOT VirtualDubMod)
(the message about VBR will now be displayed, just click ok, you might wanna remember the bitrate it gives though, so read carefully what it says))

2. select full processing mode under audio in the toolbar
3. go to compression under audio and make sure [no compression (PCM)] is selected
4. go to file ----> save as wav, and save the audio, make sure you have enough diskspace
(aproxximately: 1 GB for 90 minutes, i think)

5. after the wav file is saved, go to audio---->wav audio and select here the wav-file you just saved
6. goto audio--->compression and select a compression, i'd advice MPEG layer 3
(choose a bitrate close to the bitrate VirtualDub gave you earlier, so you wont lose too much quality, if this is possible of course)

7. now go to video and select 'direct stream copy'
8. go to file--->save as avi and save your new file with CBR-audio which shouldnt have a synch problem ever again wink.gif

i hope this is clear enough for you

alternatively, you can use VirtualDubMod (but i have never tried this, it should be faster though if it works)

1. open the avi-file and click 'no' when asked to convert to CBR
2. go to streams---->streams list
3. right-click on the audiostream and select full processing mode, under compression you can select mpeg layer 3 and a bitrate to your liking
4. select 'direct stream copy' under video
5. save as avi-file

again, ive never tried this with VirtualDubMod, but it should work, i think, maybe you can tell me if it does smile.gif

good luck again wink.gif

It works!!!! Thank you very much for your help and patience. I did it with the VirtualDub. No problems at all. Thanks again.

Thank you very much
it really worked!
thanks 1 more time!
oh... other question, do you know what is the difference between avi and old avi files?
because in Virtual Dub they have an option that says «save in old avi», and i just wanna know what is the difference between them.
bye

I think the main difference between AVI 1.0 (old avi) and AVI 2.0 is the limit in file size. AVI 1.0 has a maximum file size of 2 GB.
I'm no expert at this, so you could run a search on google for 'old avi' or 'AVI 1.0', cause there probably are some other differences too.

hope this helps a little again

yes, it helps
but i just wanna know that only for curiosity, and for my best performance too!
with the avi files in CBR, with subtitles, i can make some DVD's!
thanks again

again, describe your problem

1 is it a constant off-set
2 is audio running away

for the first use the scew-correction under audio-->interleaving
if the 2nd is still the case after you converted to CBR then you might try video--->framerate--->match audio-video duration

if this doesnt work, then i dont know anymore either, like ive said i never have synch problems

hello
i have a problem, when i open the movie (hulk.avi, i don't know if the movie interests) Virtual Dub don't tell me nothing about VBR encode, so i put video in full processing mode and i inserted the subtitles.
when i want to conevrt it to mpeg tmpegnc says that the "audio is not compatible" and it only open the video file.
after it, i return to Virtual Dub to encode the audio using that process that «stephanV» describe up there.
and i put audio in full processing mode, compression PCM (no compression) and i click on "save wav". then Virtual Dub says this error "The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and the channel count of the input match those of the requested format"
what should i do?
thanks
