There was time when I was able to log onto the desktop, straight off and not have to click my name, only name shown, from the welcoming screen. I went to help forums and even to Microsoft's page and they are telling me to uncheck the "users must use a user name and password". However this does not work for me.
When I uncheck that option and reboot I'm presented with what looks like a newly, fresh, desktop with 2 icons, like if I had just started at the beginning with windows. Going to the administrator account and not mine which is also an administrator. Can I delete the main administrator account? Never understood why there was one when I am the admin and the only one using the computer.
The one thing I recall reading up on and downloading was a reg file for this particular issue, but it didn't do anything, was to fix some kind of .net 1.1 bug but I cannot for the life of me find the MS page where I had downloaded that reg fix, it didn't help anything anyway with changing the action back to just signing directly onto desktop.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has an answer that would be great. I use to be able to just restart and get back onto windows with my account. Now I have to click my name on the welcome screen. My name is the only name shown on this screen, "scratches head" |

Here's a link to a page about adding Adminstrator to the welcome screen But you can do it in reverse to remove it
Further down the page, there's a link to a little program that can turn it on/off
[edit 28/07/12]
Here's 'a' link for anyone who searches the forum, but it might not be the one I originally thought I'd put in ;-) http://www.petri.co.il/add_the_administrat...n_in_xp_pro.htm

Sorry for not getting back to this post. I'm slipping.
I think I went into users and group policies section under advanced management and disabled the user "ASP.NET" and rebooted and it work.
Could you repost that link again? Your link for some reason didn't show. |

No link anywhere in, above, below, left of or right of your post. You must have been having a seniors day. I get them occasionally as well. |

(Edited on 30/07/2012)
Maybe these ones can help: - for Windows XP: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm
- for Windows 7: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/452-63-b...op-login-screen (in step 4 : DO NOT enter a password / leave the field blank) At my pc the parameter "Users must use a user name and password" is active, I did not enter a password, and my pc boots straight to the desktop. My "User Name" belongs to the "Administrators Group". |

...There used to exist a set of tools called 'Microsoft Powertoys'. If my memory doesn't play tricks on me ))
One of them was "Tweak UI". -- This one exactly does what you want (among other funny things).
TweakUI for Windows-XP can be found on this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...indows-xp?T1=PT
Note for those who haven't used it ever before: Exercize caution! Keep record of all the changes you do to your OS! |

If possible, I'd set a password on the account and enter that into the auto-logon settings rather than leaving it blank. That avoids the possibility of a trivial remote login with admin access. |

My suggestion to the XP users: look for the version 2.00.1.0 especifically, because it's Microsoft's "wisdom policy" to cripple or to b0rk the newer versions of their products. |

A quick search shows many people had malware problems with 2.00.1.0 version.
I would download this only from a trusted known source, if one is available. Use the original crc32, sha1 or similar hash to check it is the same original file.
Maybe better to say what had changed to this after microsoft took it over. Else a current version could be better choice direct from microsoft ! |
