Does anybody know what the heck this sound is? I have heard this sound for a few years now and it happens from time-to-time and it is very annoying.

Is it coming from the speakers or the case?

If it's from the case, then it's a mechanical noisem so look at anything with moving parts
Possibly hard drive, dvd drive or floppy drive
I've got about 6 dead maxtor drives in the cupboard that made sounds like that before they died
Floppy's can make that, or a GraunchGraunhGrauch kind of noise
Stuck dvd draws can do it whn the heads rise and lower for ejection

It's coming through the speakers. It happened with my old speaker and it occurs with the logiitech's I am using now.

This sound happened even after putting in a new hard drive back in November of 2009.

This sound has been coming and going for a few years now. Once, sometimes twice, a week and it will last for a few hours.

I have checked my computer and it appears clean, no viruses, no trojans, no rootkits nor any malware detected. Nobody connected to my network that shouldn't be so I don't know what the deal is.

No way!!.

I opened up windows search and I heard more of that sound. It's Rover the dog scratching himself!

I do keep windows open and I do searches often but I'm amazed that it has taken me all this time to figure out it's that dog.

Boy I feel dumb.
