unsure whether or not to try out the software... (very newbie)-- need to convert .wmv to .avi. will this do it? thanks for any suggestions. |

Current versions of Virtualdub will not. Older versions might. Microsoft does not wan't anyone to leave their format so they have made it as hard as possible. Combined with AVISynth you might be able to do it. But the way Microsoft's codecs work they throw away almost all the detail in both the audio and video. And transcoding looses what little was left. So I guess what I am saying is that even though the format sucks and the codecs are awfull and the thing as a whole is completely non portable, unless you absolutely must convert it keep it as is. |
