One used to be able to copy and paste a partially downloaded avi or mpg and be able to view the copy's content using WMP or DivX players. This enables one to check to see if the file is a fake or has poor quality, etc. Now as I was attempting to do this with bootleg videos of the current Paul McCartney Shows, I tried, but niether right-click nor hi-lite and clicking File would produce a menu. For other files on the same page it would work. I was directed by someone in a WinMX help chat room to use Virtual Dub to open these files. I have downloaded Virtual Dub and closed the WinMX program and tried to open the partials. I get an error message saying 'unexpected end of file' Can you help, please? |

that's weird, I use WinMX and have never had that problem, it's (not even close to) possible that it's a file system error on that particular file. It's quite a bit more likely that either someone is downloading that file from you at the same time you're downloading it, or that some other program locked it when accessing it and didn't let go when it closed, though the only thing that should've loaded it would be whatever media player you're using.
run VD, then open the file from it's open dialog, before hitting OK click on the "Popup Extended Options" checkbox, if you get a box titled "AVI Import Filter" then try using Re-derive Key frames. It could be that your AVI is acrually an MPEG with an AVI extension, you'll know that if you get a box titled "MPEG import filter", and if you do, click the "Accept Partial MPEG Streams" check box.
If neither work, you'll have to wait for the file to finish downloading, sorry.
