VFAPI does not do sound plus it is slow and outdated. Rip the DVD as you have been. Next feed the ripped VOBs to DVD2AVI. Make sure DVD2AVI is set to demux audio. Now under the file menu "save project". Once that is done you should have a *.d2v file and either an AC3 or MPA file. Now you need AVISynth and the MPEG2 DLL for it. You can get them separatly or use the Gordian Knot package over at doom9.org. I would recommend Gordian Knot for you. It will import the D2V file, crop and resize for you. And once it is done you can generate a nice AVISynth script to feed to Virtualdub. Once in Virtualdub then encode as normal.
This leaves you with the audio in either an AC3 or MPA file left to handle. You could either use something like Nandub to just MUX the AC3 in your AVI. Or you could use besweet or headac3he to convert the AC3 file to either PCM WAV, MP3, or Vorbis. I think even AAC is a possibility now as well. If the audio is MPA you can change the extension to MP3 and use winamp and it's encoder plugins to transcode it or you can use CDeX to transcode it.
Now you will have your video and audio compressed but in different files. You need to get them together. Lets assume you chose MP3 for your audio. Do not use VBR MP3! Winamp and CDeX in their encoder options for MP3 should let you select to make an MP3 with a WAV header. If you did that your MP3 should have the extension *.WAV. Open your compressed video AVI in Virtualdub. Under the audio menu select WAV source. Set both video and audio to direct stream copy and save your finished AVI.
This is not a complete guide. At best it is a rough outline. Full guides can be found at doom9.org. Just ditch VFAPI. |

Thats right, But how do you make a CBR MP3 with BeeSweet?
I like to put 96Kbps 44 or 48Khz CBR Mp3 for thge main language in my rips, so what I do is encode in 128kbps VBR Mp3 that I mux with nandub and then use VirtualDub to convert to Lame MP3 CBR @ 96Kbps. THAT is stupid, but I found that the --alt-preset cbr 96 doesn't work, you get a vbr again and if you use the -b 96 option the you get a cbr mp3 @ 96 Kbps BUT unfortunately even it you state -ota( -fs 44100 ) you get a 36 Khz sampling rate MP3.
This is not the place to ask, but does anyone knows how to get a 96Kbps 44 or 48Khz CBR Mp3 from GordianKnot or BeeSweet?

I only use beesweet when I have AC3 which is rare. Most times I use CDeX or OGGdrop to encode to MP3 or Vorbis. |
