Hello, I have following problem with my VirtualDub. Everything worked fine since first install (9 months ago). I was running the 1.4.9 version frequently, encoding to DivX 5.0.1+Fraunhoffer mp3 . Last week I have installed DivX 5.0.2 - the free edition (not Gain or Pro). And now VirtualDub crashes everytime I try to encode.
I have tried to reinstall everything from scratch several times (incl. the OS) and using the DivX 5.0.1, but same errors.
These errors vary - mostly "Access Violation", but I have seen also some "Memory Cannot Be Read" crashes.
I have tried: 1.4.9+DivX 5.0.1+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.9+DivX 5.0.2+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.12+DivX 5.0.1+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.12+DivX 5.0.1+Lame mp3 1.4.12+DivX 5.0.2+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.12+DivX 5.0.2+Lame mp3 1.4.12_P4+DivX 5.0.1+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.12_P4+DivX 5.0.1+Lame mp3 1.4.12_P4+DivX 5.0.2+Fraunhoffer mp3 1.4.12_P4+DivX 5.0.2+Lame mp3
The crash occurs almost immediatelly after encoding starts (after cca 0.5 sec).
I have put several crash reports on the web: VirtualDub Crashinfo for crash 1 Event log first record for Crash 1 Event log second record for Crash 1
VeeDub (P4) Crashinfo for Crash 2 Event log first record for Crash 2 Event log second record for Crash 2
VeeDub (P4) Crashinfo for Crash 3 Event log first (and only) record for Crash 3
My config is Pentium 4 machine with RDRAM and Windows XP Pro (no service pack).
Any help? |

Your web server is returning zero bytes to me for every one of the files you linked. Also, the only useful file will be the crash dump from the general (non-P4-opt.) version. |

Sorry for that. It looks like another dead freeweb. Anyway I have uploaded the crashinfo file from the "clasic" VirtualDub to other system. It's here: VirtualDub crashinfo |

Another reinstall, another crashinfo. This time: DivX 5.0.2 + Lame mp3
Processing started from batch.
After 35 seconds (about 100-150 frames) crash.

More testing done... but with no luck.
I have tried again the DivX 5.0.2 + Lame mp3 - from a batch.
This time VirtualDub hung after encoding 2/3 (14 minutes) of the movie clip. The VirtualDub stopped on processing one frame. After I aborted the processing VirtualDub crashed.
Here is the VirtualDub Status window:

And here is the Crashinfo - again the Access Violation: VirtualDub crashinfo 2 |

I have tested this a bit more. It looks like the "hung" problem is related to audio procesing. If I let VirtualDub process only audio (video is set to direct stream copy), it hangs. Here is another crashinfo. If I let VirtualDub process only video (audio is set to direct stream copy), everything works fine.
Any help? |

For some reason, the MPEG layer III rate correction code is crashing. Try disabling it in Options|Preferences|AVI and see if it helps. Why it's crashing is a mystery to me -- it almost looks like the code is receiving MPEG headers with free-form or invalid bitrates.
Also, I'm required by law to ask if you are overclocking, and if so, to try not doing so.... |

I am running the 1.4.12, no overclocking and cooled-ventilated case. I will try disabling the correction code after I get back home from work. I will also test other mp3 encoders (till now I have tried the Lame and Fraunhoffer (advanced)). |

please download version 1.4.13 as soon as you can, cause 1.4.12 has some bugs that were corrected in 1.4.13!!! |

The 1.4.12 bugs that were fixed in 1.4.13 weren't crash bugs, so it wouldn't matter. Also, I keep link maps and source archives of all released versions, so I can read stack traces from 1.4.12 and correlate to source.

I have just tested the 1.4.13 (clasic version) - also crashes.
This I have started processing directly and VirtualDub stopped processing on videoframe 20813 (25 fps), audio sample 36755780 (44.1 kHz, stereo, 16bit). Here is a screenshot of the Staus Window. After I pushed the Abort button I got a messagebox with "Thread deadlock detected attempting to abort - killing process.". Here is the deadlock messagebox.
No crashinfo this time.
But I have found following:
1) this crash is audio-dependent, has no connection to video processing
2) the Lame encoder 0.3.0, Creative mp3 encoder 1.0 and Fraunhoffer mp3 encoder (advanced) [from Windows XP Pro installation] stop all at the same place - videoframe 20813 .
3) Fraunhoffer mp3 encoder (professional) version 1.2 build 63i works.
That IS strange. |

I have tried disabling the MPEG layer III rate correction, but same behaviour. VirtualDub stops on videoframe 20813. |
