So I have an issue recording with my easycap, It was running perfectley then I unplugged the easy cap because I was done for awhile, came back later, plugged it back in, black screen, and I have tried everything to fix it, I reversed the changes I made before it wasnt working, ive tried everything I can think off and now its getting annoying

I noticed there was another thread with a similar issue from 2012 that wasnt resolved so I thought I would just ptovide some answers to things I seen on that to save you guys some time
The source option under the video tab is grayed out for me so I cant click that,
The device shows up correctley with (direct show)
I have the correct video standard selected for both my console and my games
I am getting a yellow dot in the log saying "CapDShow: Unable to transition filter graph to run state: hr = 80004005 ()"

UPDATE: the error listed was to do with me selecting the wrong audio source by accident, The hr = 80004005 error is now gone, however the black screen remains

A link to the actual thread would save everybody some time..

Did you see this

The problem most people are having is that it doesn't "display video correctly". After installing it, it should be recognized as a Syntek STK1160. You'll need to change the video from PAL to NTSC (If you live in America or Japan). Go to Control Panel -> Scanners and Cameras -> and right click on "Syntek STK1160" and select "Video Decoder Property". Change it from "PAL_B" (Or whatever it is) to "NTSC_M" (for America) and "NTSC_M_J" for Japan. You'll know the right one when it says "Signal Detected: 1".

OK thanks for the link, now everyone can catch up. Others around here have more knowledge in this area - but first, what about this

Do you have any interesting errors showing up in the log (Capture | Log, F8)? These would be of the form: CapDShow: failed to build filter graph: ....

The log is showing no errors even when I start a capture test, it says connected to device successfully, and the capture was completed successfully

Also I tried capturing a video and playing the file, the saved captures come up also with a black screen, however the sound is being captured

What software are you using the play the file? To eliminate any possible Windows codec issues, try VLC player.

What does VirtualDub File Information say? (please click the "copy" button and paste the report in your reply)

If the file is not AVI, or even if it is, please post a MediaInfo report too.

Did you verify via the Video-menu > Video source, if the right input is selected (Video Tuner / Video Composite / Video SVideo) ?

The fact that in Video-menu > Source... is greyed out, is normal.
This option is only active when "Screen capture" has been selected in the Device-menu.

for Video source I always set it to composite the correct one for me, same setting I have on other applications

Codec ID : YUY2
By a roundabout method, I ended up here: http://www.fourcc.org/yuv.php.
Which pointed me to this page: How do I play back AVIs with YUY2 video?
QUOTE
YUY2 is a raw video format that is often supported by video capture hardware and DirectDraw drivers. If you have a system which has support for the format both at the capture and display ends, though, it is still sometimes the case that you can't play videos in YUY2 back without getting an error along the lines of "Unknown compression" or "Codec not found".
...
Solution: Install Indeo 4.1 codec and add
vidc.YUY2=ir41_32.ax
under the '[Drivers32]' section in C:\windows\system.ini.
C:\windows\system.ini? OK it's an old page, but it sounds like a good idea to try to locate an Indeo 4.1 codec.
A quick Google search takes me here (sevenforums.com).
QUOTE
A little googling led me to the Ligos Corporation who now supply them. However, the Ligos site says that Indeo codecs are not supported for use with Vista or Win 7. [link added]
(digging around again, it seems free-codecs.com is the place to get the Indeo codec. It's linked from Wikipedia, it must be OK!!

...back to the sevenforums.com page, here is how to install it:
QUOTE
open a 'command prompt' using a rightclick, select, 'Run as Administrtor'
type: cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (32bit users can skip this step) - press enter
type: regsvr32 ir50_32.dll - press enter

...as an afterthought wacko.gif , I think you should simply
Get the VirtualDub FFmpeg input driver.
Chances are it will open the file.

Weird, I have no idea why but I actually already have that Indeo already installed, I tried the codecs anyway, no luck, I tried the command prompt you suggested, still no luck, The capture avi is still black with audio working along with the videos, so no change

I have both of those installed but Im not sure what you are asking me to do, Attempting to use the capture card with virtualdub with the plugin in it, still black screen, while recording: black screen, after recording, the file has a black screen, this is on both vlc and virtualdub with and without FFmpeg input.

I am suggesting you play the file that you say is all black, first with VLC player and then with VirtualDub+FFmpeg as per the link.

I think the file may be OK, & your PC is not playing it out correctly. You need to test for this possibility, at least.

Are you really sure that there actually is an output-signal onto that composite cable ?

Do you have possibility to plug it into a television and verify if you really "see" the images.
Only when you are sure of that, you will still have to look for the problem at your easycap and computer's side.

If you do not get a 'preview' in VirtualDub capture mode, chances are very low that the capture itself will be succesfull.
