Hello Guys,
I am consistently getting an error when saving AVI files with virtualdub. I get this error when I edit an AVI file (cut a segment) and try to save the end result as AVI. Both video and audio are set to direct stream copy. Previously, I used the program without problems. Any help is apreciated.

Ok, I downloaded the experimental version of virtualdub and the problem disappeared. Not sure what's going on here, but I am sure I peviously used the latest stable version without problems. |

Actually myself I cannot give you any more than my idea...
Regarding the crash report, the problem seems to come from the module Msftedit.
Msftedit.dll (in 32-bit Windows 7 it is on C:\Windows\System32) is indicated as Rich Text Edit Control.
I think this dll is used in VirtualDub in combination with subtitles.
1) Is it possible that ffdshow (or other decoding software) is installed and that the "Subtitles" option is checked in the decoder configuration settings ?
2) Can you verify which video-decoder is being used while the file in question is opened in VirtualDub version 1.9.11 and which one is used while you open that same file in VirtualDub version 1.10.4 (via File > File Information...) ? Probably they will be different ... (or settings will be different) |

I get the same information when I open a file and go to file -> file information. The only difference is the addition of some digits in the audio stream compression field (1.10.3: bandi_mpeg-1 audio decoder (0x0050); 1.9.11: bandi_mpeg-1 audio decoder). Video stream decompressor is the same: bandi mpeg-1 video decoder (mpeg). Not sure if that's what you mean. The file in question was created using game recording software, but I have this issue with all AVIs tested so far. I didn't find any decoder configuration settings though. |
