Hi All
I'm using Virtualdub 1.9.11 and opening a HD video file shown in VD as 25fps.

I need to extract a stills file, captured at 1 fps, i have set the conversion rate to 1 fps and created a stills file, however the file seems to have stills captured at 6 (ish) fps ???

the window, open during the capture process shows expected number of stills at 5960, which would be correct for a video of approx 99 minutes long, this is correct.

However it captures at about 6 fps and stops processing, normally after about 15 mins of video, which is about 1/6th of the video.

So the processing window has correctly calculated the number of images to capture and processed accordingly, but has taken 6 fps instead of 1 fps, resulting in the right number of images but stoped 1/6th into the video

Any ideas guys ??

Quite urgent

Thanks

Steve

Do you only want to change the framerate of an existing video from 25fps to 1fps ?
(... this has nothing to do with 'capturing' ...)

Just open the video in VirtualDub.
If it already is an AVI-file, then you can set the Video- and the Audio-menu to "Direct stream copy".
If it is not an AVI-file, then set the Video- and Audio-menu to "Full processing mode" and set the Compression... for both (video and audio).

Via Video > Frame Rate... :
- Change frame rate to : 1 fps
- Process all frames

File > Save as AVI...

After the new file has been written, open it in VirtualDub and look into File > File Information... at the first case, it should indicate the new frame rate.

Hi Abrazo,

No the input video is an HD Mpeg-4 video file, which i can open sucessfully in VD. (it plays fine with sound etc)

I need to extract a stills file, captured at 1fps from the video.

What happens is

the window, open during the capture process shows expected number of stills at 5960, which would be correct for a video of approx 99 minutes long, this is correct.

However it captures at about 6 fps (VD is set to capture at 1.0 fps) and stops processing, normally after about 15 mins of video, which is about 1/6th of the video.

So the processing window has correctly calculated the number of images to capture and processed accordingly, but has taken 6 fps instead of 1 fps, resulting in the right number of images but stoped 1/6th into the video

Maybe I have difficulties to correctly understand what you are trying to do.
(I did a test by reducing the framerate from 25 to 1 via VirtualDub 1.9.11 and that was not a problem.)

Supposing that your original movie has 25 images or frames per second...
Do you want that every image just has to stand still for 1 second ?

You can achieve this by reducing the frame rate to 1fps like I said in my previous answer and make a new movie that really plays at 1 frame per second.

If you want, you can eventually set the new framerate to 25fps via the second part of the "Video frame rate control"-dialogbox at "Convert to fps".
So every second of the new movie will have 25 copies of each original frame.

Please try to explain your question "in other words" if I still did not get it.
Or, maybe someone else does understand you better than I do ?

Need a video from a few frames (stills) saved as .avi at 1 fps ?

If not more info is needed for Abrazo or other persons to help you further with this.
