Hi everybody,

with my film (link provided after), when i read it in VD with the input play button I have white lines and points in the right side of the VD window.
If I play it with the output button, everythink is OK.

Is it a bug?

Thank you

They both play fine for me, nothing like white lines or points

You might try playing with the display options in the preferences just to check it's not your graphics card drivers
I'd try unticking the overlay option and if they're still there unticking all the directx options

I have tried a lot of combination with the same result: can anyone test it just to check if it is only on my configuration?

Thank you

I did test it - it was fine, both input and output panels (scuba video of a ray)
The output panel is the same input that the input panel has, after it has been modified by any filters added
If there are no filters, than the input and output should be exactly the same from virtualdubs point of view
If it was being decoded badly, then the output pane would also show the problem, and you would see it even while not being played

One difference can be the display of the panes, overlay etc. With that, the hardware may be used to display the output differently on input an output panes. Hence the try turning it off suggestion
As that hasn't helped, I'm not sure what to suggest as your problem only happens on the input pane when play is pressed
The video's obviously being decoded ok as the glitches only show up while playing, and only on the input one

Possibilities include the pc being overclocked, bad drivers for the graphics card, graphics card itself etc etc
Nothing offhand I could say "this is exactly the problem" about

I do have suggestions, on a different point though
I'd try using a fixed quality mode for compressing the videos, the clip is quite poor quality as is
(I'm assuming that the original is better...)
I'd also suggest using h264 for video of that frame size. You should get an improvement in file size as well as quality
(Of course, that assumes that what you want to play back on can play h264)

Hi and thank you
The output is only working when I use Full processing mode, not other mode.
Which codec is using VD for divx?

Virtualdub uses the systems codecs
To see which one, look at the file information dialog on the file menu

Hi dloneranger,

very strange this problem of input with the difference if I play only the input compare to if I play the output.
Furthermore going back on the quality, I have used HD DIVX codec (6.9 if I remember well) with 6000 as the rate. For DIVX HD, which rate do you recommend?
For H264, how to encode using it with VD?

Thank you

X264vfw works directly inside virtualdub, or you can use the external encoder options and use x264

Can't give suggestions about bitrate as personally I consider bitrate based encoding a pointless thing to do
...with the exception of hitting a specific size for eg 1 dvd, and then you calculate the bitrate anyway
I always go with one of the quality based settings eg 'crf' in x264vfw with a setting about 24

One thing with x264 is setting the level and profile you use - 'auto' can make some strange choices and give huge files
You can look up what the profiles and levels for H264 are, but I go with profile=high, level=4.2 as that fits my media players hardware

x264vfw

There's a basic config image here http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...1157&hl=x264vfw

Finally I have found what is going wrong with my file: in the preferences, main, i'm using as outpout color depth the fastest (16 bits).
If I change it I don't have anymore the issue.
Can anyone explain purpose of this? Is it only for the display of video on the PC screen, so I can use the truecolor instead without issue?

It's a bit of a hang over from older times an only sets the display pane's colour depth in virtualdub itself
If you need to check what the image looks like on a 16bit display etc....

Just set it to 'match display depth'
