When I go to open, say 2000 segmented serial jpeg files, nothing shows in the folder, only if I do *.* enter does the files appear and load correctly.

On the Open File dialog, change the 'Files Of Type' to 'image sequence' and it'll show the jpgs

Strange, they should show up. Are you seeing *.jpg;*.jpeg show up in the All Files filter list?
