Hi there,

I just downloaded VirtualDub 1.9.11 and whenever I try to enter the compression window the progam freezes completely and I have to force close it via the OS. It doesn't matter wether I've opened a file or not, it just freezes as soon as I click on the menu item.
I've tried the x86 and x64 build so far but I experience the bug in both of them. I do not have any fancy codec(s) installed and couldn't find anyone else with the same issue, that's why I decided to open a thread here. Anyway I'm almost sure this must be a codec-issue, is there a way to list all installed codecs (Windows)?

The UI becomes unresponsive and the typicial Windows 7 dialog appears (This program seems to be unresponsive, wait or force close...). Is there any chance of a log/debug file I could hand you over to help with this?

Version: VirtualDub 1.9.11 (x86 and x64)
OS: Windows 7 Prof x64 Service Pack 1
RAM: 4 GB
CPU: 4 x 3 GHz (AMD)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

GSpot can list all the codecs virtualdub uses (virtualdub uses VFW codecs)
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

On it's menu bar, System->list codecs and other filters
VFW entries are the ones virtualdub loads

Okay, I've found the reason for the freezes. A software called "Matrox VFW Codecs" was installed, I don't know where it came from (I guess it was shipped with Lightworks), but I uninstalled it and it works now.

Thanks for your help!

How comfortable are you with regedit?

On an x64 vista/win7 machine, the 32 bit VFW codecs are listed at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
and their descriptions are at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc

You could look there for any odd ones

Just for a comparison here's my list
