I have used Virtual dun with Subtitler for months to hard code subs in English Everythng fine Then I wanted to hard code Thai subtitles Problems with Thai fonts So downloaded AVI Recomp and the software came with Viruak Dub Mod This software was great for Thai hard code Then went back to use Virtual Dub to hard code English subs and the compression function won't work Error message 1 Tried different files same result won't compress Help John |

instead of hard-coding subs in the video file (which a lot of people hate), why not create .SRT (subtitle) files to go with it instead?

Maybe whatever he's playing it back on can't handle external subs?
Anyhow....
Error 1 - not very descriptive Giving the full error message would be good Giving details like the codec selected, frame sizes and fps would be better as well
Without these it's a guess
So, guess 1 is The video doesn't fit what the codec is expecting
Causes The width or height isn't a multiple of 8 (or 4 for some codecs) The heigh, width or fps are higher than the codecs selected profile eg if divx home theatre is selected, then the max sizes are 720*480 @ 29.97 fps, or 720*540 @25 fps
Those are just guesses though If you want better answers, give better descriptions - you wouldn't go to a doctors and just say "I hurt" would you
