Not sure if this is a bug, or something Im doing wrong, but I think it is a bug.

What Im doing is taking some raw video capture, editing it in premiere, then exporting it uncompressed (video and audio). These huge files are then fed into Virtual Dub, in which I do my DivX compression (cause its much faster than Premiere is at this and likes 2 pass encoding).

When I do this with the usual 640x480 video clip, it seems to work fine without much trouble. However, often when I create widescreen format videos, often at resolutions like 500x278, Ill get what I can only describe as a pixel alignment problem.

In detail, its on the left side of the finished video. About the first 10 or 15 pixels from the left are about one or two pixels lower than the rest of the video. I made a small example so you can see what I mean. Keep in mind the original uncompressed video looks fine, and I am using no filters or options in Virtual Dub, I am only using the DivX Pro 5.02 compressor (audio compression seems to not affect this).

Video problem demo (638KB)

Any information is appriciated, thanks.

PS. From time to time, this little problem has shown up in regualr video resolutions as well.

even if codec developers may state different, i'd personally stick to the 16 x 16 rule for picture resolution, as many video card drivers will run into probs on playback of a 500 * xxx file ...

Thanks for the suggestion. However, Ive even had this issue when making 640x480 video. Thing is, it doesnt seem to happen all the time, it seems dependant on the video content (file size maybe) as well as the resolution.

Also, I think it must be something with the DivX codec now. I just tried uncompressed output the the problem isnt there. Ill check out the known DivX 5 problems and see if anything like that is listed.
