I unzipped the SW and used AuxSetup.exe to install the 'handler' (DLLs). After loading any kind of AVI or MPG (can be previewed in virtualdub), and after selecting the menu [video], [Compression]; I always get an error message "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. C:/..../VirtualDub.exe. Abnormal Program Termination" . Appears in both releases 1.4.13 and 1.4.12. What am I doing wrong?

What video codecs do you have installed. Look at your 'system.ini' and under '[drivers32]' the lines that start with 'vidc' are the VFW video codecs.

the only system.ini I've found is c:\winnt\system.ini, a very short one (copied below the line). I have installed the DivX5.0.2 pro bundle, so I think there is at least one coder available.
Since I use WIN2000, I followed the instructions in the FAQ an looked in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 There I found a whole bunch of vidc.xxxx, a small subset is copied below from a txt dump of the registry. In the past I indeed installed div3, div4, and recently div5:
Value 23 Name: vidc.DIV3 Type: REG_SZ Data: DivXc32.dll Value 24 Name: vidc.DIV4 Type: REG_SZ Data: DivXc32f.dll Value 25 Name: vidc.DIVX Type: REG_SZ Data: DivX.dll
So: What am I missing or doing wrong?

Well, I was thinking that you had a video codec installed that was causing VirtualDub to crash. I'm running Win98SE so I'm not sure were to find a list of your installed codecs. Maybe Control Panel -> ?Multimedia? -> Devices tab -> Video Compression Codecs. Is this correct under NT?

In Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > tab Hardware > video codecs > tab Properties , I found 14 drivers all 'functioning properly': DivX ;-) MPEG4 Video Codec (Fast Motion) DivX ;-) MPEG4 Video Codec (Low Motion) DivX 5.0 Pro Codec i263832.drv iccvid.dll Indeo video 3.2 by Intel Indeo video 5.11 Indeo video Raw YUV by Intel msh261.drv msh263.drv msrle32.dll msvidc32.dll msyuv.dll pclepim1.dll
Any suggestions about conflicts? |
