This would be useful for the various windows in VDub. One very good example is the filters window. The various informative options that I can activate there are really helpful. They require somewhat more space, but every time I open the filters list window, it's back to its tiny default size. Thus, saving such things would be neat, and also window positions so that you can get a feel (based on memory) of where various windows open and/or so that they don't get in the way of other UI elements.
Also, the video codecs window for example is fixed size. If you have a couple of codecs installed, you'll realize that the most interesting ones have a habit of beginning with X, and so you might have to scroll down every-single-time you open that window to select a codec.
Functionality makes me like a program, but usability makes me love it.
