I would like the "Files of type" dropdown in the File / Open dialog to remember when I have chosen a specific file type. It need not be saved in the registry or anything, just kept in memory while the program is running. Thanks.

Added to my (um, much neglected) TODO list. Some might not like this, but putting in an option for it shouldn't be a problem.
