Hi Everybody,
As you know there exists VirtualDubMod which allow creation of OGM and MKV in addition to AVI But the VirtualDubMod project is down...
Why VirtualDub developpers could not take the work of VirtualDubMod to integrate OGM and MKV container creation in VirtualDub?
Does this imply a complete rewriting of VirtualDub? Is this a will of VirtualDub developpers to be limited to AVI only?
In any case it would be great to create MKV because this is the container which is more and more used contrary to AVI.
Thanks, |

I don't want to talk for phaeron, but importing VirtualDubMod MKV capability in its current state would be of little help. It's outdated and isn't able to handle most modern Matroska files (native H264).
Given that fact and that there already are excellent tools for creating MKV (MKVMerge) that do accept AVI files, I don't think this should be a first or even second priority. You have to draw a line what you do and don't want to do somewhere.

Now that Ffmpeg Input Driver exists for VirtualDub, doesn't this make VirtualDubMod no longer needed?
Ffmpeg Input Driver for VirtualDub works with 31 different file formats, including mkv.
I'd like to know, because it seems I could delete VirtualDubMod and just use VirtualDub exclusively from now on. |

@ plowpow FFInputdriver plugin makes it possible to 'import' and open a number of different fileformats in VirtualDub, but it does not offer you the possibility to 'export' files in an other fileformat.
@ those still interested in creating MKV (or other fileformats) from within VirtualDub: Phaeron made this possible, starting from VirtualDub version 1.10.xx, by making use of 'external encoders'.
Depending of what kind of fileformat(s) you would like to create you will have to download and install some additional software.
After that: - Via Options > External encoders ..., you can set up encoders for audio and video, and a multiplexer for combining these two into one file. - Via File > Export > Using external encoder..., you can make use of the encoder(s) that you did set up, to finally create new files (like for exemple MKV).

Not even close to being an expert on VDub or video editing (trying to teach myself) but couldn't a person just frameserve the video to TMPGNce (sp?) and utilize whatever codecs they have available on their system? |

I am using the official virtualdub for long time, even though virtualdubmod is obsolete but i still have to use it just for the feature that it supports saving avi files with duel audio and the official vidrtualdub dose not support this feature i strongly recommend that official virtualdub should also support saving avi files with duel audio and if possible other format like mkv support should also be included.
As far as handling most modern Matroska files (native H264) in official virtualdubis concerned it is possible using the fccHandler's mkv, flv plugins, virtuadub output support for mkv and avi with duel audio is all that is needed. |

mkv and dual audio virtualdub can use External Encoders forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=18840 for doing those.
External Encoder can output and multiplex many other formats and containers, better than virtualdubmod was by far |

First of all duel audio support in vidrutaldub should be implemented because then virtualdub can be used without using any external application. plus implementing duel audio support should not very difficult because it dose not require any new file format support or anything avi files can be saved with duel audio just as it i do it on virtualdubmod and those files can played on standard dvd player if i make the same file using avimuxgui the files dosenot play on standard dvd player. |
