ATM, I don't have the capability to do that; sorry. But the source code is there if you can talk someone else into compiling a P4 version.

Update: I've withdrawn the MPEG2 version of 1.5.3 because of a stalling problem. I'm convinced that the problem lies in the new Dub code, but it's way more prevalent in my version (especially if you're running Win98 on an older processor).

For now, I'm sticking with the more stable 1.5.1.

Update: Thanks to Avery Lee's expert help, I'm able to offer a new build of 1.5.3 with MPEG2 support, and the stalling problem seems to be fixed!

Avery was kind enough to send me a source code patch which fixes a "race condition" in the processing pipeline. The condition is more likely to occur on computers running Windows 95/98. I expect that the fix will make it into VirtualDub 1.5.4; in the meantime you can use my build if you are afflicted with the stalling problem.

Its nice to have a fix, btw I am running on XP SP1, so it means not only Win 95/98 is affected.

Q? Is the VirtualDub-MPEG2-AC3.zip on your site the updated version, the size seems the same thats why I'm asking.

Yes (I downloaded it myself just now to double-check). The build number of the version with Avery's patch is 16323.

Sad to let you know, it still stalls with PicVideo MPJPEG codecs sad.gif

Did you check it out? Is it working OK with you?

I just tested on a recent capture file, and it's working fine for me with PicVideo MJPEG. In fact it's working fine now with every file I have that was stalling before. I assume you've tried reinstalling the PicVideo codec?

Avery Lee told me that he was unable to reproduce the stalling on his systems. If you can come up with a simple way to guarantee that he can reproduce the stall with the original VirtualDub 1.5.3 under Windows XP, I'm sure that it would help him track down the cause.

I'm afraid I can't be of much help since I don't have XP.

I'm uploading a new version of my mod today which seems to fix the problem described here, thanks again to a bit of source code provided by Avery Lee.

The new version also makes it possible to direct stream copy MPEG and AC3 audio, via a kludge of sorts. The hidden feature is disabled by default; to enable it (only on a per-file basis), I added a checkbox to the extended open options dialog for MPEG. Essentially what it does is it bypasses the Priss and AC3 audio decoders, and sends the data directly through the rest of the Dub engine. This has a number of side effects:

- VirtualDub can't preview the audio unless there is an ACM decompressor for the format (not the case with AC3, or MPEG Layer I/II).

- From what I've seen, WMP9 doesn't like MPEG Layer I/II audio in AVIs, though Media Player 6.4 does OK with it.

- If the MPEG audio is VBR, you'll have the same sync problems you get anytime you put VBR audio into an AVI.

Have fun. biggrin.gif
