A warm and friendly welcome to all of you !!

You may ask yourself what this board was made for ? Well, i had the pleasure to have some limited email contact with Avery Lee, the creator of this wonderful AVI editing/creation program Virtualdub.

I noticed that he must have a huge queue of emails to read every day, and i assumed many of them would be users of Virtualdub asking him questions that we would call 'newbie questions' wink.gif .

As I do have some experience in answering Newbie questions from my other activities on www.powerdivx.com ( soon : www.corecodec.com ) and earlier on www.divx.com, i had the idea to start a Virtualdub support forum to help Avery to reduce the number of emails he is receiving every day.

everwicked from www.everwicked.com has offered to create the board for me and to host it on his server; the rest was done pretty quick then smile.gif !

My hopes are that we will be able to convince Avery to mirror the URL of this support forum on his homepage, resulting hopefully in a clear reduction of emails he receives every day, giving him more time to make Virtualdub 2 for us biggrin.gif !!

Feel free to comment on what we are planning to do here. If you don't like webboards you may also meet us on IRC, irc.openprojects.net server , at the #virtualdub channel !

Well, i first want to talk to Doom9 personally before doing any announcements on his board about this support forum here.

Doom9's forum is not targeting on Newbies and most people posting there ( same for everwicked.com ) know very well how to use Vdub, so i cant see any competition effects between the two, but i will respect his opinion on this issue ... so i will ask him before i take any actions.

sure, most ppl on doom9 and ew.com know ENOUGH to use vdub.

but can u say u know EVERYTHING about vdub? i use it and it satisfies me, but still, i don't know enough on some issues with buffers to be used and some more 'isoteric' features of vdub..

which makes me think.

the #1 task for this forum is to produce a good faq, regarding EVERY option in the vdub menues.

but i respect your decision of talking to doom9 1st.. i guess he's gonna be cool with it though smile.gif

Nice to have this board around, I hope it will get crowded soon smile.gif
Let's hope the right people approve soon, so we can start advertising biggrin.gif

Ps. Although this forum type looks really spiffy, the quoting system seems quite strange. I mean, the result is different in IE than in Netscape....I like IE's result much more.

About the quoting system :

Have to get used to it. I found its almost impossible to separate the quoting and answer to the corresponding line. Only possibility is to copy and paste the quoted text into the message body and use the well know quotation signs '[quotx]' and '[/quotx]' ( x replaced by e ), making it a bit more time consuming ( but not much).
